Convergence is the New Black
Digital Culture and New Media
Hello! I'm Allyssa Campbel-Sawyer, and this is my website for MCS 352. See the Navigation tab for the work I have produced for this class.
About

If you are a Millennial like myself, digital media is probably as natural to you as a water is to fish. Even if you're not constantly checking your Facebook, you still use and live in new media everyday. But what is digital media really about? What meanings are embedded in social media, in the web, in our smartphones, in Google? This blog explores multiple facets of new media, from music to memes to video games. You will find work I have done for my MCS 352 class, synthesizing scholarly articles with aspects of new media we take for granted today. You will also find a presentation I did on the history of the mp3 technology, as well as a transformative work of fan fiction based off the show Black Mirror and the mobile app game The Silent Age.
And now, a little about me. I'm Allyssa, and I'm a journalism student at DePaul, hoping to one day work for an entertainment publication/website. My minor of radio, TV, and new media has made me a critical and devoted entertainment consumer. I am a Scandal fan (#Gladiator, #TGIT hello), as well as a fan of Orange is the New Black (obviously), How to Get Away with Murder, and Game of Thrones. Last but not least, I LOVE music! I host my own radio show at DePaul, and all three of my tattoos are music-related. It is my love and my escape.
I hope you enjoy my blog!
